Black and White to Color

I had a little time to today to mess around with Sketchbook Pro and Photoshop and so I began experimenting with creating skin tones - - first creating them from scratch and then adding them to existing art.  I enjoy both traditional art and digital art and was looking for a way to combine them.  This image is the result - - one that you may recognize from a previous post, but with a new "old timey" skin tone enhancement.

Fan Art

Two pieces of fan art this week.  The first is a Loomis Lady done with an HB pencil.  I did the second one, a Tom Richmond, the next day with a ball point pen.  Each one takes up most of the page in my 9"x12" sketch pad.

Here's another study I did from Drawing The Head And Hands - - the lady on page 80.  The little "pre-liminary" drawing was done with an HB pencil and the larger study was done with an HB and 4B pencil.  Most of the drawings from this book have a loose, grainy look, that probably was easily reproduced in the newspapers and magazines of the times.  I enjoy trying to re-create his head studies because although they suggest a lot of detail, they still read as drawings.

Old Guys

Here's a drawing I did from the Andrew Loomis book Drawing the Heads and Hands.  I have challenged myself to recreate, to the best of my ability, every drawing in the book.  At over 150 pages and with each  page having 2, 4, 8, or more drawings per page - - this will add up to a ton of drawings.
