This study, from Beautiful Landscapes by Diane Wright (Walter Foster Publishing) was a great way to work on the fine details that make up a Pine Tree. Looking a little further in to the study, you can see how the attention to those details can be applied to any drawing. The essential question to ask when working on any texture is, "Why does that surface read as bark, or metal, or grass, etc?"
